With the Free Walk orthosis, you can make smooth walking and stable standing an ordinary part of your life again. This special orthosis system gives you a nearly natural gait pattern along with increased security and stability. You can place full confidence in this system and enjoy increased mobility.
A mechanism on the knee joint locks the orthosis during the stance phase and disengages it for the swing phase. The joint remains disengaged in the swing phase, so that you can bend your knee and swing your leg freely. As a result, the Free Walk brings you extremely close to a natural, healthy gait pattern. Unlike traditional orthoses, the system does not require compensatory movements. As a result, you require less energy for walking and travel longer distances again. At the same time, the system reduces strain on your joints and back.
The Free Walk also is extremely comfortable to wear. The orthosis is fabricated to fit your individual leg dimensions and perfectly match your physical proportions. The Free Walk is lightweight and thin, making it especially comfortable. The orthosis is hardly visible under clothing and is barely noticeable during daily activities. To boost comfort even more, the system features skin-friendly padding. The Free Walk can be worn comfortably over extended periods without causing unnecessary sweating. If necessary, the padding can be cleaned with warm water and soap.
The Free Walk is easy to don and doff while sitting—simply push the foot component into the shoe and put your foot in. Then attach the orthosis to your leg. The Free Walk features convenient quick closures which allow for easy fastening. Another handy feature: the orthosis is designed so that you can sit comfortably at any time. You can also disengage the Free Walk using a switch located directly on the orthotic knee joint. This makes it easier to sit down.
You will take your first steps with the Free Walk during a fitting session with your orthotist. He or she will give you detailed instructions on how the system works and how to use it. You can then practice walking with the orthosis in the company of your orthotist or physical therapist.
